- Insurance€50018%
- Road tax€1806%
- Maintenance€50018%
- Other€2007%
This is an estimate. CarBudget computes your real cost from your fill-ups and receipts.
How the calculation works
Running cost = a variable part (fuel, which depends on how much you drive) plus a fixed part (insurance, tax, maintenance). The fuel formula is:
Yearly fuel cost = (km ÷ 100) × consumption (L/100 km) × price per litre
Add the fixed costs, divide by 12 for the monthly cost, or by your yearly kilometres for the cost per km — the fairest way to compare cars.
Why an estimate isn’t enough
Real-world consumption is on average 10-25% higher than the manufacturer’s figure, and fuel prices keep changing. The most useful number is the one based on your real expenses — exactly what the CarBudget app does.

Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate yearly fuel cost? +
The formula is (km per year ÷ 100) × consumption in L/100 km × price per litre. Example: 12,000 km, 6.5 L/100 km and €1.85/L → €1,443 per year.
How do I calculate cost per km? +
Divide the total yearly cost (fuel + insurance + tax + maintenance + other) by the kilometres driven in a year.
Does the calculator include depreciation? +
This calculator estimates running costs. For total cost of ownership, add depreciation and financing under “other costs”.
How do I get a more accurate figure? +
By tracking real expenses. In the CarBudget app, AI receipt scanning and fill-ups compute your actual cost — no estimates.
